FUHRER FIESTA THANKSGIVING WEEKEND 2009

ˇVAMOS A AKUMAL!

"Let's do it again in 10 years!" we said. And so we will!

Please join Jennie and Tim in Akumal, Mexico. We are excited to be celebrating our 10 years of marriage but we also celebrate, you, our family and friends. You make a difference in our lives. So please join the party!

We hope this website will help keep you connected as new details develop.

Akumal is Mayan for Place of the Turtles, which means you will all enjoy snorkeling along with the turtles in the calm bay, just outside your rooms. Akumal Bay is protected by the Mesoamerican Coral Reef, the second longest reef system in the world, and has calm waters and long sandy beaches. All this and more are right there for you to enjoy. Akumal is a quaint spot with several small shops and restaurants all within walking distance.

We have someone really great coordinating details for the group. Her name is Lydia and she can be contacted by her email lydia@justimagine.net or by phone 843-814-4575. She really knows Akumal well and is super helpful. She doesn't do air travel, but once you select your dates of travel, she will handle your hotel reservations, ground transport, travel insurance and any adventures or transportation you may wish to book. Please make your reservations directly with her as all the best rooms are being held for the Fuhrer Fiesta. Lydia can accept reservation payments by check or credit card. Keep in mind there is a Paypal credit card fee of 3%. Also, a nominal charge will be included for her services, but it's worth it. She will handle all the details from soup to nuts, 'cause you know I can't keep my arms around the whole crazy bunch!

You will be staying at the lovely, family-owned, Hotel Akumal Caribe. There are ocean-front hotel rooms and garden setting bungalows available. Before you launch to the hotels website, please remember that although the web link shows villas, they are not part of the hotel and they have no access to the pool or hotel facilities. If you are unsure whether the hotel room or bungalow is better for you and your people, please, please talk to Jennie or to Lydia. And please remember to book direct with Lydia to appreciate the group discount. Our group will enjoy a 10% discount on room rates. They charge by the number of adults in the room and kids under 12 are free. But with 2 adults, a hotel room is US$99 and a bungalow is US$80 per night. There is Internet access available in the rooms and free wi-fi at the beach bar.

Guests are welcome to make arrangements to arrive anytime during the week. Jennie, Tim & Sami will arrive the weekend before Thanksgiving and activities will begin on Wednesday, 25 November 2009. Confirmed Guests as of February 20, 2009: Jennie, Tim & Samantha Fuhrer; Ruth & Dick Silage; Jan Walker; Alex & Ana Silage; Ken Fuhrer & Kristen Permakoff & Lila Renke & Kim James & Dave O'Connell & Eoin O'Connell; The Secrist Family, Stephen, Leslie, Dylan, Karter and Camaron; The Morrissey Family, Monica, Joseph and their 3 children!

Akumal Tips and Facts:
Akumal is an ecologically conscious community. They even have recycling! As this is a rarity in Mexico, We would encourage you to do your best to try. In efforts to preserve the coral reef and the marine life, visitors are asked to use biodegradable sunscreen and biodegradable bug protection. If you cannot find it locally, these are some good links www.mexitan.com, www.caribbean-sol.com, www.UVNaturalSunScreenStore.com

The temperature in Akumal in November ranges from 71-83 degrees. While these warm temperatures will definitely be welcomed by us all, you may wish to bring a layer. In the evenings, the sea breeze can make 70 feel a little cooler.
