Chichen Itzá

Chichen Itzá is Mayan for "The well of the Itzás." The wells were best known for their sacrificial purposes.

Chichen Itzá is a vast Maya ruin dating from 600 to 900 AD. It is a day trip from the Akumal area and there are hotels available near the archaeological sites.
