2008 Summer Camp for Young People and Parents

Just Imagine Vacations along with Hotel Akumal Caribe has created the perfect Eco-tourist, Multi-cultural Adventurous Summer Camp for Tweens and Parents. This camp is also available as a day camp for those who are traveling with family and already have made their reservations. We are currently taking reservations for July 27-August 3, 2009.

This summer camp is designed to entertain, educate and inspire young people as well as build character and expand cultural experiences; at the same time create an enjoyable vacation for young people and their parents by providing activities they can do together and apart. Parents can indulge in some pampering in paradise while we keep your tweens busy, or you may decide to do some educational activities with the young people.

The experience is based on educational, fun experiences that include: environmental studies, history, Spanish language, Maya Culture, and more – all with a hands on approach.

At the end of the trip we hope each young person will have their own memories and thoughts stored safely in their scrap book and or journal. They will be able to add photos to this when they get home. We will also use lap top computers to create a web page where we will share photos, thoughts and comments from the week. This will be a way family and friends can see what they are doing during the week and people can visit well after the trip is completed.

5:30 – 6:30 Happy Hour at Lol Ha Beach Bar for parents

7:00 – 9:00 Dinner at Lol Ha Restaurant

9:00 Turtle Talk at CEA followed by a turtle walk. These walks often go late into the evening. Turtle Season is from May through October and in the middle of the season it is possible to see both nesting mothers and new hatchlings. Again this activity is open to young people and parents, because the children may get tired at different times we encourage parents participation in this activity or make arrangements with another adult. The Walks are limited to 10 people so we will offer this activity through out the week but suggest that everyone attend the Turtle Talk this night. Reservations need to be made in advance.

Day three – History and Culture

Breakfast at Lol Ha Beach Bar

Tulum, tour some of the most famous Maya Ruins and ones with absolutely the best location.

We recommend you wear your bathing suits and comfortable clothes over them. Tulum can get hot because there is few trees and little shade, but there is a wonderful small beach with crashing waves that is perfect for cooling off before we head home. Parents are welcome to attend this outing.

We will return to Akumal late morning and head to Selva Maya.

On the way to or from Selva Maya we will make a stop at the library in Akumal and meet some of the local children. Work on a cultural project and end with a soccer game. Cultural project could include beach clean up, helping to paint or clean the CEA spaces, libraries or local schools. When young people from both countries are together we will encourage them to practice their English and Spanish – enabling children from both worlds to learn how to better communicate with people from other cultures with other languages.

During the afternoon parents will have time to pamper themselves in paradise.
